Best of Edina 2012 – “Batting Cages of Minnesota are a Hit”

September 19, 2012 By admin Leave a Comment
Best of Edina 2012Take a swing at the Pro Batter Simulator and other baseball and softball practice equipment.

Whap! That’s the sound of a 100-mile-per-hour fastball smacking the rubber backstop at the Batting Cages of Minnesota.

I was standing outside the batter’s box asking myself if I was really going to step in and attempt to hit the next wiz of a pitch coming from the Pro Batter Simulator.

I tightened my grip, tried to recall the modest success I had against the 70 mph offerings and waited. The pitcher wound up on the video screen and the ball zipped out of the hole in the screen.

I swung early, but was still woefully behind. Strike!

Best of Edina 2012

Ah well, it was fun nonetheless. The Batting Cages of Minnesota, tucked into a back cul-de-sac in an Edina office park, is a unique opportunity to hone your hitting, fielding and pitching skills.

Mayor Jim Hovland and a number of coaches weigh in on how Batting Cages of Minnesota–and the Pro Batter Simulator as its marquee attraction–will be an asset to the baseball and softball communities.

Take a swing through the story in the July issue of Edina Magazine, available July 1 at edinamag.com. Until then, check out the The Batting Cages of Minnesota website or give them a call 952.426.0980 if you have any questions.

A new baseball training facility just opened in Edina called Batting Cages of MN. As M.A. Rosko shows us, it has a secret weapon—the Pro Batter Simulator. According to manager Jennifer James, the system is used by major league teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets and others because it’s so incredibly realistic.

Batting cages just got a whole lot more life-like in Edina.

ProBatter Simulator - Batting Cages of MinnesotaThe pro-batter pitching simulator at the Batting Cages of Minnesota makes you feel like you are facing a real pitcher.

The pitcher goes through a full wind-up and then the ball comes through the hole in the screen. Depending on your age and skill level the machines can throw between 40 and 100 miles per hour.

EDINA, Minn. – There’s a new way to train for baseball and softball players in the Twin Cities.

The Batting Cages of Minnesota officially opened Tuesday in Edina.

The 35,000 square foot facility features 11 tunnels that can be used for batting, pitching and more. In two of those tunnels you’ll find the ProBatter Simulator, one for baseball and one for softball. Used by several MLB teams, the simulator shows a pitcher winding up on a screen and the ball then shoots out of the screen. The speed, direction and type of pitch can all be adjusted.

Batting Cages of MinnisotaThe ProBatter is used by the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and Cincinatti Reds, among others. Jennifer James, General Manager at the facility says there’s only 170 ProBatter’s in the world.

James also points out that the “Batting Cages of Minnesota” goes beyond just a training facility. It can be used for birthday parties, business gatherings, even weddings.

Reservations to use the facility must be made over the phone. Head to their website for that information.
